Dope Testing Results

Further to the National Pony Society Council’s decision to undertake drug testing at the 2021 Summer Championship Show, the following results can now be released. Five separate animals were randomly selected for testing.

  1. A sample taken as a random test from Gwerniago Gethin at the National Pony Society (NPS) Summer Championship Show showed the presence of phenylbutazone and oxyphenbutazone.

At a meeting of the NPS disciplinary panel on Monday 20th September, owner Mr Ashley Bird was suspended from membership of the National Pony Society until 25th August 2022.

Gwerniago Gethin, who won the not exceeding 143cm Mountain and Moorland Working Hunter Pony of the Year qualifier, has been disqualified from his placings there.

Mr Bird is also required to pay the dope-testing fee of £ 1446, reimbursement of prize money of £40 and the penalty fine of £1000.

  1. All other samples returned a negative result.
